FRAMEWORK #464

Audio file

this edition of framework:afield has been produced in the uk by james torrance, and features readings from the essays of architect erno goldfinger by geoffrey streatfield.

Audio architecture – the sounds of buildings and the spaces they stand in.

This programs features the work of modernist émigré architect Erno Goldfinger, who lived and worked in London for most of his life. Bold, ambitious and notoriously uncompromising, his buildings, though relatively few in number, have left an indelible mark on the city and the history of 20th Century British architecture.

A psychogeographic journey, a sense of place: these field recordings attempt to provide a representation of that legacy. Sonic documents of his four major buildings – 2 Willow Road, Alexander Flemming House, Balfron Tower and Trellick Tower. The landscapes they shape, the voids they enclose, the communities they embrace.

Radiophonic interludes appear throughout the program. The readings, provided by Geoffrey Streatfield, are taken from Goldfinger’s archive of essays, journals and lectures.

Recorded & produced by James Torrance. For more information see:
