UK Jazz Dance
Are you aware of the impact your music has had on the UK Jazz Dance scene?
"Not at all"
"Central Park" is an anthem for the scene and is a big record in the clubs.
"You mean as a remix?"
No, no, the original track - people just go crazy to it!
"No kidding. Boy, I'd love to see that ... I had absolutely no idea, and it's a shock you telling me this."
- Intervju s Chickom Coreo na piratski radijski postaji Jazz FM, circa 1980
"Fusion spread all over the country, initially by a group of dancers from Birmingham led by Stretch and Lizard. After they saw it, it changed the dance-style forever ... After a while, you started to see small areas doing Fusion. 'It was like a virus that was spreading,' Lizard said. It caused a lot of resentment initially. The older balletic/contemporary dancers didn't like it ... but there was a whole new wave of very young (many underage) predominantly black dancers coming through in their hundreds and they wanted the music fast and rough (mainly jazz fusion) to dance their rough battling dance to. It became hard for jazz based DJs not to cater to these dancers as they were now the majority countrywide."
- Mark "Snowboy" Cotgrove, From Jazz Funk & Fusion to Acid Jazz: The History of the UK Jazz Dance Scene
To zgodbo je avtor Mark "Snowboy" Cotgrove, zbiratelj, glasbenik in zaprisežen ljubitelj angleškega klubskega jazza, povedal v knjigi From Jazz Funk & Fusion to Acid Jazz.
V oddaji bomo delili to zgodbo v besedah, njen glavni del - Paul Murphy in The Electric Ballroom - pa v glasbi.
Skromna a z ljubeznijo narejena spletna stran o UK Jazz Dance, s poudarkom na (nekoč) misterioznem vinilu "The Bottom End": http://thebottomend.co.uk.
