REAL

It consists of transparent crystalls and normally has bubbles of air trapped inside. Depending on the number of bubbles, the ice breaks the light in different ways and thereby changes it's colour.

VIRTUAL

It is very complex to depict ice in an animated film. The expansion of light in ice is a highly physical process. A central parameter for mathematical description is the scattering coefficient, which indicates how the radiant power of the light decreases when penetrating ice.

SOUND

This very gestural, dynamic storytelling approach to sound… here’s a river and here’s some birds flying over the river and here’s a car in the distance that’s static. So it’s this very romantic, pastoral, sentimentalised way of dealing with the landscape, with sound as a landscape.
